We are building the Silesian Interdisciplinary Centre for Chemistry – stay up to date!

The technological progress, which we are witnesses and such greedy consumers of, happens every day before our eyes. However, contrary to our expectations, neither progress nor success has a linear increase. Breakthrough discoveries are exceptionally rare events, but they are the ones that teleport us to a world of entirely new possibilities. They would not exist had it not been for the painstaking groundwork of many of our predecessors. We work and educate ourselves and our students for years, full of hope that one day these activities will bear good fruit. We are not always able to see the actual results of our efforts, but at least we will develop some sort of legacy, leaving someone and something behind. After all, no one lives only for themselves. Speaking about rankings, evaluations, results, we are becoming irritated and impatient when formulating expectations for Polish science, but perhaps it is better to leave the “world of injustice” behind, and focus on the proper use of the potential given to us, and where it is absolutely needed, on its creation? While running, it is easy to forget what we already have. The development of science, technology, the country or the world is, after all, a parallel and extremely long relay race in which each of us takes part and will truly play our part, and on top of that, we are all racing against everyone else. In times of threats, it is worth being cautious and wisely using the potential that our civilisation and university community have been accumulating over the years. Chemistry is one of the possible insurance policies for here, now and tomorrow. We absolutely have to join it. In my opinion, we all absolutely need it to be able to build a qualitatively better and safer life together.
